Brain & Memory

Support focus, clarity, and recall.

Cognition is protected most by sleep, exercise, and cardiovascular health. These support focus and memory, with honest caveats about how strong the evidence is.

What to look for

Fatty acids and botanicals that support cognition.

What the research supports

Recommended supplements

  • Omega-3 (DHA)DHA is a structural fat in the brain. Evidence is mixed — benefits show up mainly at higher doses and in early or mild decline, with little effect once impairment is advanced.
  • BacopaAn herb used in traditional medicine for memory. A meta-analysis of randomized trials found it improved aspects of memory and attention.
  • Lion's maneA mushroom studied for cognitive support. Evidence is limited to small, early trials, so consider it promising but unproven.

Things to keep in mind

No supplement prevents dementia. New or worsening memory problems should be evaluated by a provider. Bacopa can cause mild digestive upset in some people.
