About Innovative Health

Supplement guidance grounded in published research, from Troy Hounshell, PT, ScD — a physical therapist and Doctor of Science on a mission to cut through the hype with honest, evidence-based recommendations.

Hi, I'm Troy

For more than two decades I've worked as a physical therapist — across acute care, outpatient, private practice, skilled nursing, and home health. I studied biology at Angelo State University, then earned my Master of Physical Therapy (2000) and my Doctor of Science in Physical Therapy (2005) at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. I'm the owner of Texas Therapy Pros and the founder of DrTroy.com, where I create continuing education for fellow rehabilitation clinicians. My doctoral and research training taught me how to read scientific evidence critically — and that's exactly the lens I bring to supplements.

Why I started Innovative Health

For years, my patients asked me a version of the same question: "What should I actually be taking?" The supplement world is loud, confusing, and full of claims that don't hold up. I started Innovative Health to give people straight, evidence-based answers instead of marketing.

That mission became deeply personal. Supporting my wife through the chronic effects of Epstein-Barr, and walking beside my son through three and a half years of leukemia treatment, showed me both the limits and the genuine supportive role of good nutrition. My son is cancer-free today — because of medical care, not supplements — and our family is on a lifelong path of rebuilding his health to its best possible condition. Those experiences are why I refuse to overpromise: supplements can support overall wellness, but they are not treatments or cures, and I'll always tell you the difference.

How I decide what to recommend

Every recommendation here is filtered through an evidence-first standard:

My promise to you

Clear, honest, research-cited guidance: what's worth taking, what isn't, and why. Innovative Health is educational and is not a substitute for medical advice — always talk with your own healthcare provider before starting anything.

These papers are in biomechanics and motor control, not supplements — the relevance is the training in how to read a study.
